Tissue Flashcards
What is differentiation?
The process by which a single cell divides repeatedly
What is tissue?
Tissues are gross of cells with a common structure and function.
Give 2 examples of epithelial tissue.
1) the outer layer of skin
2) inner lining of the stomach and intestines
Give 2 examples of connective tissue.
1) cartilage - external ear
2) bone
Give 2 examples of muscular tissue.
1) heart (cardiac)
2) iris
Give 2 examples of nervous tissue.
1) brain
2) spinal cord
List the 3 types of muscular tissue.
- Skeletal (striated)
- Involuntary (smooth) - found in the walls of the stomach/intestines
- Cardiac - heart
What is an organs?
Organs are body structures that are made up of 2 or more types of tissue. They work together to carry out a particular task.
What are systems? Give examples.
Various organs are organised into body systems, sometimes called organ systems
eg. urinary, respiratory, skeletal, cardiovascular, etc
What are 2 types of connective tissue and how do they differ?
Loose and dense connective tissue.
Dense connective tissue has abundant collagenous fibers that appear white - white fibrous connective tissue. Loose connective tissue or areolar tissue has sparse collagenous fibers.
