Q

Name the 2 types of cells and how they differ.

A

Prokaryotic

  • no nucleus
  • simple structure and no organelles surrounded by a membrane
  • unicellular with one, circular chromosome (DNA)
    eg. bacteria and archaebacteria

Eukaryotic

  • one true nucleus
  • nucleus stores DNA
  • complex structure with membrane-bound organelles

Q

What advantage does having cells so small in size provide for the human body?

A
  • large SA and volume ratio

- increases rate of diffusion/substances enter and leave the cell more efficiently.
