What is MDF and how is it made?
It is used made by glueing things together but it is more finer than chipboard
How is chipboard made?
It is made by glueing, compressing and you let it set
Plywood
Sheets of wood that are glued together and you put the grain in either ways. A knot in wood is weak. There is even distribution and has consistent strength.
Hardwood Ash properties and common uses
Properties: Tough, flexible, wide grained, finished well.
Common uses: Sports equipment and ladders
Hardwood Beech properties and common uses
Strong, high abrasion resistance, ability to shrink and eazy to work with
Used in flooring, boat building furniture and muscical instruments
Hardwood Mahogany properties and uses
Expensive, light brown, difficult to use compared to pine
Furniture and windows
H Oak properties and uses
Expensive strong heavy and durable
Making quality and expensive furniture
H Balsa
Light, soft, not strong
Buoys, raft, surfboards, aeroplanes
Softwood Larch
Moderately durable, difficult to treat, small moisture movement and fine texture
Yachts and small boats
S Spruce
Thin, regular texture, light, strong and medium density
Used in paper industry, construction, boats, barrels and aeroplanes.
S Pine
Relatively cheap, pale in colour, easy to cut and shape and machines well
Used in building trade and furniture
