THIGH Flashcards
How many compartments does the thigh have?
3 compartments. Anterior, posterior, medial
What is the posterior compartment muscles innervated by?
Sciatic Nerve
What is the anterior muscles innervated by
Femoral nerve
What is the medial compartment of thigh innervated by?
Innervated by obturator nerve
What is popliteal fossa
A diamond space posterior to the knee joint
What are the two margins of political fossa
Proximal section, and distal section
Describe the proximal section of popliteal fossa
medially by distal segments of semimembranosus and semitendinosus muscles. Laterally by distal end of biceps femora’s muscle.
What happens at the top of popliteal fossa?
The sciatic nerve splits into the tibial and common fibulae nerve
What vein and artery does popliteal fossa contain?
Popliteal artery and popliteal vein.
What kind of joint is the acetabulofemoral joint. What are the joint movements?
Ball and socket joint. Flexion/ extension, abduction and adduction, medial and lateral rotation.
where does the obturator nerve originate from and how does it travel?
Originates from the lumbosacral plexus. Exits the pelvis through the obturator foramen.
describe the distal section of popliteal fossa
medially and laterally by respective medial and lateral heads of gastrocnemius muscle.
