PELVIC FLOOR AND HIP Flashcards
What type of joint is Sacro Iliac joint and what joint movement does it produce
Solid joint and sliding- no movement
What type of joint is pubic symphasis and what joint movement does it produce and which ligament does it have?
Solid joint and little to no movement. Inguinal ligament
What is the pelvic floor formed by and where is it located?
formed by muscles and fascia and is located in the inferior region of the pelvis
What are the functions of the pelvic floor
supports pelvic viscera, supports pelvis structurally, controls bowel and bladder, aids in reproductive functions, aids in bracing during lifting movement.
what is the iliotibial band (IT band)?
band of thickened fascia that runs along lateral thigh. Attatches at gerdy’s tubercle on lateral tibia. Provides structural support to knee and hip. Acts as an insertion point for many muscles in the pelvis and thigh region.
what is the femoral triangle?
A wedge shaped depression formed by muscles in proximal thigh.
what are the four margins of the femoral triangle
Base: formed by inguinal ligament
Medial: formed by adductor longues muscles
Lateral: formed by sartorius muscle
Floor: medial compartment muscles that are medial to adductor longus
Where is the base of the femroal triangle?
where external iliac artery/ vein becomes femoral artery/ vein
What happnens when our flexors contract
extensors stretch/ lengthen
what happnes when our medial rotators contract
our lateral rotators stretch/lengthen
what type of joint is the pubic symphasis and what ligament is assosciated with?
Solid joint so little to no movement . Inguinal ligament
