Q

What is memory?

A

Term given to structures + processes involved in storage and retrieval of info. Info has many forms - e.g. images, sounds, meanings

Q

Explain encoding, storage, and retrieval process:

A
  1. Encoding = Registering info as a memory. Can be in diff forms - acoustic, semantic, visual, tactile
  2. Storage = Keeping memories after encoding. In sensory memory, STM, and LTM. Links to neuroscience; acc storage in brain
  3. Retrieval = Accessing memories from storage. Can be recognition of recall. Lack of retrieval = forgetting. Can be reconstructive; not exact match of what was encoded + stored
