2.2.2 - 2.2.10 Methodology: Baddeley study 1 + 2 Flashcards
What is the aim of the study?
To test effect of semantic + acoustic similarity when learning and recalling word sequences in LTM
Why is an interference task used as a control?
To prevent rehearsal
Why do u get retested?
To minimise STM effects
What is the aim of experiment 1?
To see whether LTM is encoded acoustically or semantically
What happened in experiment 1?
Did immediate recall of words then a task, followed by a retest
What were the results of experiment 1?
LTM wasn’t influenced by acoustic or semantic similarity, was due to confounding variable
What was the aim of experiment 2?
To see whether change in research designs makes more accurate LTM results
What happened in experiment 2?
Group X = Same as experiment 1
Group Y = Did interference task in middle of trial
Group Z = Did interference at end of trial
What were the results of experiment 2?
Group Y showed poorer performance + group Y research design correctly tested LTM. A control is needed to validate findings
