The tibiofibular joints Flashcards
What is the tibiofibular joint
Two articulations between the fibula and tibia of the leg.
Comprised of the proximal tibiofibular joint- synovial plane
and distal tibiofibular joint- fibrous joint
What are the supporting structures of the proximal tibiofibular joint?
Joint capsule
Anterior and posterior superior tibiofibular ligaments
Lateral collateral ligaments of the knee joint
Biceps femoris
What is the arterial supply of the proximal tibiofibular joint?
What is the nervous supply?
Inferior genicular arteries
Branchees of common fibular nerve
What are the supporting structures of the distal tibiofibular joint?
interosseous membrane
Anterior and posterior tibiofibular ligaments
Inferior transverse tibiofibular ligament
What is the arterial supply of the distal tibiofibular joint?
What is the nervous supply?
Why doesn’t the distal tibiofibular joint have a joint capsule?
Fibular artery
Deep peroneal and tibial nerves
As it is a fibrous joints and only synovial joints have joint capsules
