Protection- Protects the anterior aspect of the knee joint from physical trauma

Describe the anatomy of the patella

The patella is Triangular shaped with anterior and posterior surfaces.

The Apex of the patella is situated inferiorly and connects to the tibial tuberosity via the patella ligament.

The Base forms superior aspect and attachment point for quadriceps tendon

On the posterior aspect the patella articulates with the medial condyle of the femur,

The lateral facet articulates with the lateral condyle of the femur.
