Muscles of the medial thigh Flashcards

1
Q

Describe the muscles of the medial thigh?

Name them

A

Hip adductors or groin muscles. Innervated by obturator nerve, arterial supply is via the obturator artery

Gracilis
Obturator externus

Q

Describe adductor magnus

What innervates it?

A

Largest muscle of medial comaprment it can be divided into two bits: hamstring section and adductor section

Hamstring: tibial component of sciatic nerve
Adductor: obturator nerve (L2-L4)

Q

What are the attchmetns of adductor magnus

What are its acctions?

A

Adductor part- originates from inferior rami of the pubis and the rami of the ischium, attaching to the linea aspera of the femur

Hamstring part- originates from the ischial tuebrosity and attches to the adductor tubercle and medial supercondyle line of the femur

Adduct the thigh, flexes thigh- adductor, extends thigh- hamstring

Q

What are adductor longus’ attachements

What are its actions?

Q

What are obturator externus’ attchements

What are its actions?

Q

What are Gracilis attachments

What are its actions?

A

Origginates from the inferior rami of the pubis and body of pubis. Attaches to medial surface of tibia between sartorius and semitendinous tendons

Q

What common injury occurs to the adductor muscles?

A

“groin strain” proximal part of he muscle most commonly strained or torn. Typically occur in sports with explosive movements of extreme flexibility
