The structure of the human brain Flashcards
Hemispheres
The brain is split into two halves (left and right) known as hemispheres
The upper part of the brain
The upper part of the brain is called the cerebellum, and this has an outer cortex
How does the brain communicate with the rest of the body
The brain communicates to the rest of the body through the spinal cord. Information passes between the brain and the spinal cord through the brainstem which also controls reflexes
The frontal lobe
Important role in decision making and impulse control. Can also help control problem solving skills.
The temporal lobe
Helps us with hearing and understanding sounds and speech
The parietal lobe
Has a big part to play in understanding the world around us(perception), for example it gives us the ability to recognise faces
The occipital lobe
Mainly deals with our ability to see. It helps us process visual information from our eyes
The cerebellum
Plays a vital role in our motor movements/muscle activity
