Relates to the way a person behaves, thinks and feels. This can also relate to their view of themselves
What are personality scales
This is quantitative date that we use to measure personality. Individuals will complete a questionnaire in which they must provide a score for a characteristic or statement. Scores will be added up to provide an overall total, giving a summary of an individuals personality
What are items in a personality test
Statements or questions on a questionnaire including those on a personality test
What are dimensions
Things that can be measured such as openness in personality
What is the Likert-Scale
A scale where a person can rate their level of agreement to a statement
What is response bias
Refers to factors that can lead someone to answer falsely or inaccurately to a question
Traits
Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, Neuroticism
Personality theories
A theory about personality is known as type or trait theory
Type theory
A theory suggesting that a person’s personality can fit into a category or type such as introvert or extravert
Trait theory
A theory that suggests that personalities have characteristics that are on a continuum
Myers-Briggs Type Indicator
Isabel Myers and Kathrine Briggs based their test of personality on Carl Jungs idea that we experience the world in different ways. Jung suggested 8 types of personalities made from combinations of extraversion or introversion, sensing or intuition and thinking or feeling. Myers and Briggs also added perceiving or judging
