A

It recognises that events can cause depression unlike the genetic explanation which claims that if you have a certain gene you are more likely to become depressed; less reductionist

Q

Weaknesses of cognitive theory?

A

It is difficult to know the role of irrational thoughts as it can be a cause of depression or a symptom of being depressed
They may be other causes of depression that do not involve thought processes for example postnatal depression has a lot to do with hormonal changes
