Q

What are some adaptations of alveoli?

A
  1. Moist walls - gases dissolve in the moisture helping them to pass across the surface
  2. Thin/permeable walls - allow gases to cross easily
  3. Extensive blood supply - ensures oxygen-rich blood is taken away from the lungs and carbon dioxide-rich
blood is taken to the lungs
  4. Provide a large surface area - more gases can be exchanged at a greater rate
