The Respiratory System Flashcards

1
Q

what is respiration?

A

the exchange of gases between the atmosphere, blood, and cells

  • transfer of O2 from inhaled air to blood
  • transfer of CO2 from blood to exhaled air

Q

Four processes that make up respiration:

A
  1. pulmonary ventilation (breathing)
  2. external (pulmonary) respiration
  3. respiratory gas trasnsport (with assistance of CVS)
  4. Internal (tissue) respiration: exchange of as at the level of the cells
