Anatomical Position
the body is standing with feet together, arms to the side, and head, eyes, and palms facing forward. Standard anatomical position is the body orientation used when describing an organism’s anatomy
Frontal/Coronal Plane:
divides body into anterior and posterior
Transverse/horizontal plane:
divides body into upper and lower
Sagittal Plane
divides body into right and left
Median
section runs on the midline and divides the body on two equal parts
Parasagittal
runs lateral to the midline and divides the body into unequal parts
Anetrior
near the front
Posterior
near the back
Ventral
towards the front
Doral
towards the back
superior
towards the head/upper body
Inferior
towards the lower body
medial
towards the midline/centre
lateral
to the side/away from midline
Proximal
siutuated close to/next to or near the point of attachedment/origin
