ECG Flashcards
1
Q
EGC
A
Electrocardiogram:
2
Q
P wave
A
depolarisation of the atria
3
Q
QRS Complex
A
depolarisation of the ventricles
4
Q
T Wave
A
repolarisation of the ventricles back to rest
5
Q
Why is the repolarisation of the atria not seen on an ECG
A
The atria are quite small so the repolarisation of the atria occurs during the depolarisation of the ventricles (QRS)
6
Q
Arteries structure & function
A
- high pressure vessels
- thick muscular layer
- distribute blood to main organs
7
Q
Arterioles structure & function
A
- smaller than arteries
- distributes blood to organs
8
Q
capillaries structure & function
A
- lower pressure vessels
- slow blood flow to allow exchnage between blod and body cells
- pressure drops
9
Q
Continuous Capillaries
A
- tight bound
- small gaps
- e.g. skin & muscle
10
Q
Fenstrated Capillaries
A
- larger pores
- faciliated exchange
- e.g. kidneys, small intestines
11
Q
Veins structure & function
A
- low pressure vessel
- thinner walls (less muscular)
- returns blood to heart
- blood reservoir
12
Q
Venules structure & function
A
- smal veins to drain blood from capillary bed
13
Q
skeletal muscle pump and why valves are important in this process
A
skeletal muscle and contraction squeezes veins
