The Reflex Arc Flashcards
The neurones in reflex arcs go through the [ ] or through an [ ].
Spinal chord
Unconscious part of the brain
What happens when a stimulus is detected by receptors? (1st step)`
Impulses are sent along a sensory neurone to the CNS (Central Nervous system)
What happens when the impulses reach a synapse between the Sensory neurone and the [ ] neurone?
Relay
They trigger chemicals to be released. These chemicals cause impulses to be sent along the relay neurone
When the impulses reach a synapse between the relay neurone and a [ ] neurone, they trigger [ ] to be released which cause [ ] to be sent along the motor neurone.
Motor
Chemicals
Impulses
The impulses travel from the motor neurone to the [ ].
Effector
Describe the process that would happen if a bee stung your finger, using the reflex arc.(6)
1) Bee stings finger
2) Stimulationn of pain receptors
3) Message travels along a sensory neurone
4) Message is passed along a relay neurone
5) Message travels along a motor neurone
6) When message reaches muscle (Effector) it contracts
Name each step of a reflex arc (in order).
