What’s a Puritan?
The Puritans are a very religious people who love cleanliness and the honor that comes with hard work. Charles Mencken made a joke about them: “The Puritans are afraid of someone, somewhere else, having fun.”
How did the Puritans Live?
The Puritans were a people who lived by a strict and responsibility-based structure. The Puritans left Europe to practice religion they wanted to, the ‘pure way;’ that is where they got their name from.
How was Government in a Puritan Town?
The Puritans based their laws heavily on Theocracy, the use of the Ten Commandments. Their laws were a mix of Theocracy and Democracy.

How did the First Puritan Settlement Start?
The Puritans were the ones that took the Mayflower to America and established the settlement where it landed. The Massachussets Bay Company was built here, along with one of the first American Courtrooms and Harvard University.
Who was John Endicott?
John built a city next to the Bay Company which housed Harvard University and a courtroom.
Who was Anne Batdstry?
She was the first American Poet and wrote some of the country’s first writing with her husband.
Who was John Eliot?
John Eliot was a famous pastur who evangilized and made bonds with the natives. He was also the first American to translate the bible into the Native-Indian language.
Who was Cotton Mather?
He lived between 1663-1728 and is very famous. His grandfather Richard Mather wrote the Bay Psalms book and his other grandfather John Mather was a famous teacher as well. Cotton’s dad was Increase Mather and he taught him to be a pastur like he was. Cotton was very sympathetic and he helped to solve other people’s problems and helped settle a lot of the unfair Salem Witch-Trials cases.
