What is Mercantilism?
One of the two main types of people in the 18th Century, they wanted to use money to influence others to get what they wanted.
What is Special Interest?
One of the traits of a Mercantilist, this was the use of money to get what they desired.
What is National Economy?
Another trait of the Mercantilists, they always thought of what they want on a national scale.
What is Direct Democracy?
The third of the main Mercantilist trait, Direct Democracy is the use of having ONLY citizens make decisions for the country. They wanted this because they could bribe people to change their minds and votes that minorities casted weren’t protected like they are now.
What is Success-Based on Quantity?
To measure success, Mercantilists measured quantites of what is gained.
How did Mercantilists feel about technology?
Mercantilists always bought any new technology just because it is new, rich people still do this today.
What is Agrarianism?
The notion that a hard-working person will make better choices because they are more resoponsible.
What is Deliberate Life?
Using a same routine day-to-day, mostly the efficient use of what you have and getting work done well.
What is Familial Interest?
The first Agrarian trait, people were defined by how they interacted with their family.
What is Home Rule?
The second Agrarian trait, the notion that the home is your own little nation and that you must take pride and be responsible for it.
What is the Balanced Government Viewpoint?
The third Agrarian trait, the allowing of all people to vote and all decisions made by a minority to count.
What is Success based on Quality of Life?
The fourth Agrarian trait, this is asking yourself if what you do is efficient and worth it.
What did the Agrarians think of Technology?
The fifth Agrarian trait, they believed that technology is purely a tool and if it wasted time they wouldn’t use it.
What was the Agrarian ‘American Dream?’
They purely believed that there should always freedom and no tyranny.
Who was John Taylor of Caroline?
He wrote a great book in 1803 called ‘Arator,’ it argued about the similarities and differences between Agrarianism and Mercantilism.
