The Organism In The Environment Flashcards
What is abundance?
The number of organisms of a particular species in an area, related to the population size.
What are biological factors?
Factors affecting the abundance and distribution of organisms that are caused by other organisms, such as through competition food.
What is the definition of community?
Refers to all the populations of organisms that live in an area or ecosystem.
What is distribution?
How organisms are spread out in an area
What is ecology?
The study of living organisms and their environment
What is an ecosystem?
Consists of all the organisms and physical factors in a fairly self-contained area, such as a lake or desert.
What is the environment?
Consists of organisms and the factors that affect them
What is a habitat?
A small part of an ecosystem where a species lives
What is a line transect?
A line along which quadrats are places to sample organisms.
What are physical factors?
Environmental factors such as light, temperature and water that affect the abundance and distribution of organisms.
What is a population?
All the organisms of one species living in the same habitat.
What is a quadrat?
A square frame used for sampling the abundance and distribution of organisms.
