The Nervous System Flashcards
What are the 5 sense organs and the receptors
1- eyes : light receptors 2- ears : sound receptors 3- nose : smell receptors 4- tongue : taste receptors 5- skin
What are eyes sensitive too?
Light
What are ears sensitive ?
Sound
What are ta paste receptors sensitive too?
Bitter, salt, sweet and sour and savoury
What is the skin sensitive too?
Touch, pressure, pain and temperature change
What is sensory neurones
The nerve cells that carry signals as electrical impulses from the receptors in the sense organs to the central nervous system
What are relay neurones
The nerve cells that carry signals from sensory neurones to motor neurones
What are motor neurones
The nerve cells that carry signals from the central nervous system to the effector muscles or glands
What are effectors
Muscles and glands are known as effectors. They respond in different ways. Muscles contract in response to a nervous impulse, whereas glands secrete hormones
What do sense organs detect
Stimuli
What is a stimulus
A change in your environment which you may need to react to.
What do receptors do when they react to a stimulus
They change the stimulus energy into electrical energy
A stimulus can be…..
Light Sound Touch Pressure Pain Chemical Change in position Temperature
What does the central nervous system consist of
Only the brain and spinal cord
What is the central nervous system
Where all your information from the sense organs is sent, where reflexes and actions are coordinated.
