How are illegal drugs divided into classes?

A

The two main classes are “soft” and “hard”. Hard drugs are usually thought of to be more addictive and generally more harmful.

E.g heroin and ecstasy are hard and cannabis is soft.
However they are both as bad as each other as they all cause heart and circulatory system problems.

A
