Synapses And Reflexes Flashcards
What is the job of the synapse
Connect neurones
How is the nerve signal transferred
By chemicals which diffuse (move) across the gap
What do the chemicals do in a synapse once they’ve diffused across the two neurones
Set off a new electrical signal in the next neurone
What do reflexes do
Help prevent injury
Reflexes are….
Automatic responses to certain stimuli - they can reduce the chance of becoming injured
For example if someone shines light in your eye…..
Your pupils get smaller which lets less light in therefore your eyes have a less likely chance of becoming damaged
If you get a shock your body releases
Adrenaline hormones automatically as it doesn’t want you to wait to decide that your shocked
What is the passage of information in a reflex called ( receptor to effector)
A reflex arc
Where does the reflex arc go through
The central nervous system
What is the order of the reflex arc
Stimulus Receptor Sensory neurone Relay neurone Motor neurone Effector Response
