Genetic Engineering Flashcards
What is genetic engineering?
Copy useful gene of organisms chromosome into cells of another…
How does genetic engineering work?
Cut out insulin gene using restrictive enzyme and put in Bactria.
The insulin gene then goes in the plasmid by cutting it open with a restrictive enzyme and putting it in using ligase. Enzyme then puts plasmid back in bacteria.
How can genetic engineering be transferred into plants and animals
Crops have there genes modified to be resistant to viruses, insects and herbicides.
Sheep have been genetically engineered to produces substances like drugs in their milk that can be used to treat humans.
What are genetic engineering pro’s?
Increase yield of a crop
Cons of genetic engineering
Develop lack of nutrition in diet
Affect number of weeds and flowers
