16
Q

How does a white blood cell consume a microbe

A

White blood cells can engulf a foreign cell and digest them

17
Q

How does a white blood cell produce antibodies

A

Every invading cell has unique molecules (called antigens) on its surface,

When they wbc comes across a foreign antigen, they will start to produce proteins called antibodies to lock onto and kill invading cells. The antibodies produced are specific to type of antigen so it won’t lock onto others,

Antibodies are then produced rapidly and are carried around the body to kill all similar bacteria or viruses.

If the person is infected again by the same pathogen the wbc will rapidly produce antibodies to kill it. The person is naturally immune to the pathogen and won’t get ill.

18
Q

Producing toxins is when the White blood cells

A

Counteract toxins produced by the invading bacteria
