Q

Describe the structure of ATP.

A

ATP is a phosphorylated nucleotide.

  • Each molecule is made up of adenosine and 3 phosphate molecules.
  • Can be hydrolysed to ADP + Pi.
  • Provides an immediate source of energy for biological processes in cells (universal energy currency).
  • Energy released from respiration is stored in the bonds
