Q

What are the 6 stages of glycolysis?

A
  1. Glucose is phosphorylated into Glucose-6-Phosphate using ATP (ATP is dephosphorylated into ADP + Pi).
  2. Glucose-6-Phosphate is isomerised into Fructose-6-Phosphate.
  3. Fructose-6-Phosphate is phosphorylated into Hexose1,6-bisphosphate using ATP (ATP is dephosphorylated into ADP + Pi).
    • -> substrate level phosphorylation.
  4. Hexose 1,6-bisphosphate is split into two molecules of Triose Phosphate.
  5. Triose Phosphate is dephosphorylated (ADP is phosphorylated into ATP) and dehydrogenated/oxidised into an intermediate compound. NAD is reduced by H+ into NADH.
  6. ADP is phosphorylated into ATP converting the intermediate compound into Pyruvate
    • -> substrate level phosphorylation.

Q

What are the products made from glycolysis?

A
  • 2x ATP (made 4 used 2)
  • 2x NADH
  • 2x Pyruvate

NADH and Pyruvate are ACTIVELY TRANSPORTED into the MITOCHONDRIA.
