Need For Communication Flashcards
What is the need for communication systems?
Multicellular organisms require communication systems as they are differentiated and have a division of labour.
Provides a link between receptor (detecting stimulus) and effector (triggered to carry out response.
What is a stimulus?
It is any change in the environment that causes a response
What is a response?
It is a change in behaviour or physiology as a result of a change in the environment.
What is cell signalling?
It is communication between cells.
One cell releases a messenger molecule which travel to another cell.
It is detected by the cell as it’s specific receptor will have a complementary shape to the messenger molecule.
What are the two examples of cell signalling?
- Neuronal system
* Hormonal system
Multicellular organisms need to coordinate different organs, what does the communication system need to do in order to do this?
- cover the whole body
- enable cells to communicate with each other
- enable specific communication
- enable rapid communication
- enable both long term and short term responses
