Hoovervilles:
huge shantytowns nicknamed Hoovervilles appeared around major cities as people moved from smaller towns in the countryside in search of work

overproduction + drought
(Dust Bowl) when was there a drought in many areas?
1930 - 1936
What did overproduction + drought create? and what did it cause?
- created a dustbowl
- farmers moved away from these areas such as Oklahoma and Arkansas and tried for a better life in California
How many migrants went to California because of the Dust Bowl? and how were they treated?
375,000 migrants went to California – not welcomed and often poorly treated
How were black people effected due to The Dust Bowl?
- black Americans particularly badly hit and lost job before white people
- many sharecroppers lost land
What was the Dust Bowl?
- combinations of over farming and droughts destroyed the topsoil forming the Dust Bowl
- series of sandstorms that decimated farms
