Q

How does the Golgi apparatus process proteins and lipids from the ER?

A
  • Labels the molecules to ensure they are sent to the right place in the cell
  • Modified proteins and lipids are packaged into Golgi vesicles which pinch off from the Golgi and move to the cell surface to release their contents
  • Modifies them by adding carbohydrates to proteins to form glycoproteins

Q

What are the functions of the Golgi apparatus?

A
  1. Add carbohydrates to proteins to form glycoproteins
  2. Making and releasing secretory enzymes
