Q

What does the stomach do?

A

It pummels food with its muscular walls
Produces protease enzyme, pepsin
Produces hydrochloric acid to kill bacteria and give the right ph for protease to work

9
Q

How is the small intestine adapted for absorption?

A

Inside wall is thin
Large surface area (lined with millions of villi)
Villi have good blood supply (capillaries) allowing fast diffusion

16
Q

Where is bile produced?

A

Produced in the liver and stored in the gall bladder before being released into the small intestine

17
Q

Why do we need Bile?

A

The hydrochloric acid in the stomach makes the pH too acidic for enzymes in the small intestine to work properly

Bile is alkaline so neutralise the acid and makes conditions alkaline (perfect for enzymes in the small intestine)

18
Q

What bile do?

A

It emulsifies fats
(Breaks the fats into tiny droplets) this gives a much bigger surface area of fat for lipase to work on making digestion faster
