Cell Organisation Flashcards
What is differentiation?
Where cells become specialised for a particular job
When does differentiation occur?
During the development of a multicellular organism
What do these specialised cells form?
Tissue which form organs which form organ systems
What is a tissue?
A group of similar cells that work together to carry out a particular function
What is muscle tissue?
Made of from muscle cells
Contracts to move whatever it’s attached to
What is glandular tissue?
Makes and secretes chemicals like enzymes and hormones
What is epithelial tissue?
Made up from epithelial cells
Covers some parts of the body
What is an organ?
A group of different tissues that work together to perform a certain function
What does muscle tissue do in the stomach?
Contracts to churn the food
What does glandular tissue do in the stomach?
Makes digestive juices to digest food
What does epithelial tissue do in the stomach?
Covers inside and outside of stomach
What is an organ system?
A group of organs working together to perform a particular function
Describe the digestive system?
Glands produce digestive juices Stomach and small intestine digest food Liver produced bile Small intestine absorbs food molecules Large intestine absorbs water
