How Plants Use Glucose Flashcards
How is glucose used for respiration?
Used in respiration which releases energy and allows it to be converted into other useful substances and can be used for growth and building new cells
How is glucose used for making cell walls?
Converted into cellulose which is good for making strong cell walls
How is glucose used for making proteins?
Glucose is combined with nitrate ions (from soil) to make amino acids which are converted into proteins
How is glucose stored in seeds?
Converted into lipids (fats and oils) for storing in seeds
Seeds also store starch
How is glucose stored as starch?
Turned into starch and stored in roots stems and leaves ready for when there’s little photosynthesis like winter
Starch is insoluble Making it better for storage as glucose would draw in water
