Cells Flashcards
What is the nucleus function?
Contains genetic material that controls activities of the cell
What is the cytoplasms function?
Where most chemical reactions happen, contains enzymes to control these reactions
What is the cell membranes function?
Hold the cell together and controls what goes in and out
What is the mitochondria’s function?
Where respiration takes place (release energy needed for the cell to work?
What is the ribosomes function?
Where proteins are made in the cell (protein synthesis)
What are the components of an animal cell?
Nucleus Cytoplasm Cell membrane Mitochondria Ribosomes
What are the three other components of a plant cell?
Cell wall
Vacuole
Chloroplasts
What is a cell walls function?
Support and strengthen the cell
What is the vacuoles function?
Contains sap (weak solution of sugars and salts) that helps to keep the cell turgid
What is the chloroplasts function?
Where photosynthesis occurs
Contains chlorophyll that absorbs light
What components does a yeast cell have?
Cell membrane
Cytoplasm
Cell wall
Nucleus containing genetic material
What components does a bacterial cell have?
Cell membrane
Cytoplasm
Cell wall
Genetic material (not nucleus )
