The Brain Flashcards
1
Q
Major parts of the brain and functions:
A
- Cerebrum: largest part of the brain
- Cerebellum: part of the brain in the back of the skull
- Pons: part of the brain stem that links the medulla oblongata and the thalamus
- Medulla Oblongota: the continuation of the spinal cord within the skull
- Brain Stem: central trunk of the mammalian brain
- Frontal lobe: helps understanding
- Parietal Lobe: stores memory
- Occipital Lobe: helps sight
- Temporal Lobe: help with hearing

Q
Factors that affect the system
A
- Blood Pressure
- Blood Volume
- Resistance
- Disease
- Excersise
3
Q
How can these factors affect blood flow?
A
1) Increased viscosity: Blood is thicker & flows slowly- more resistance. CAUSED BY DIABETES
2) Artheosclerosis: Obstruction in Blood vessels causes blood clots and strokes. CAUSED BY PLAQUES (JUNK)
3) Drugs: Blood flow increases, affects brain function; chemicals cause heart to beat faster
4) High Blood Pressure: Extra pressure on blood vessel makes blood flow slow. TOO MUCH SALT CAUSES HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE
