Evolution Flashcards
1
Q
Evidence of evolution
A
1) Fossils
2) Geographic distribution
3) Embryology
4) homologus structures
5) vestigial organs (don’t need)
6) Evolution of tools (brain size)
2
Q
Characteristics of primates:
A
- Fingers, toes and shoulders allow primates to hold onto objects, climb and run along branches
- Binocular vision is the ability to combine visual images from both eyes to create a 3-D view of the world
- Well-developed Brain size lead to better problem-solving
3
Q
Theory versus law
A
Theory is an explanation that supports many observations and might be disproven
Law is an explanation of the port all observations and has not been disproven
4
Q
Darwin’s Theory of Evolution
A
- Individual organisms must differ
- organisms produce more offspring that can survive
- Because extra organisms are born, they compete for limited resources
- every organism is unique, with advantages and disadvantages
- Species alive today have descended with modifications from ancestral species. Species of old from a common ancestor
