Mitosis & Meiosis Flashcards
1
Q
What is Mitosis?
A
Cell division that results in two daughter cells, each having the same number of chromosomes
2
Q
What is Meiosis?
A
Cell division that results in four daughter cells, each with half the number of chromosomes of the parent cell
3
Q
What is the process of Mitosis?
A
- Interphase
- Prophase
- Metaphase
- Anaphase
- Telophase
- Cytokinesis
4
Q
What is the process of Meiosis?
A
- Interphase
- Prophase 1
- Metaphase 1
- Anaphase 1
- Telophase 1
- Cytokinesis
- Prophase 2
- Metaphase 2
- Anaphase 2
- Telophase 2
- Cytokinesis

Q
What are some errors in these processes?
A
- Errors (mutations) usually occur in Metaphase
- Duplicate chromosomes may not pair properly during Metaphase, the pair will not split properly
- Daughter cells without DNA or double DNA will die
- If the genes promote growth, the cell may grow uncontrollably, leading to cancer
