Population Size: Flashcards
Ecosystem populations:
Three important characteristics of a population are it’s geographic distribution, density and growth rate.
Immigration and Emmigration:
- Immigration: Movement of individuals into an area
- Emmigration: Movement of individuals out of the area
What is a limiting factor?
Limiting factors are a factor that causes the population growth to decrease.
Density Independant and Dependant
Density dependent is a competition, predation, and disease
Density independent is weather, natural disasters and human activities
Types of growth
- Exponential growth and logistic growth
Difference between biotic and abiotic
Biotic means living and abiotic means non-living
Succession
- Primary Succession: occurs were no soil exists
- secondary succession: after an ecosystem is destroyed, the communication interactions are restored after sometime
