DNA Replication Flashcards
1
Q
DNA replication process:
A
- Helicase (an enzyme) splits the double helix to unzip the strands of DNA and form the replication fork
- RNA primer gets the strand ready for the nucleotides
- DNA polymerase reads the template and adds nucleotides to the new DNA strand
- DNA/ ligase (an enzyme) fills in any gap between the Okazaki fragments
2
Q
What is the definition of Mutations?
A
Changes in the DNA sequence that could be either good or bad
3
Q
What is Translation?
A
The cells uses imformation from the mRNA to produce proteins
4
Q
What is Transcription?
A
RNA polymerase binds to DNA and separates the DNA strands. RNA polymerase then uses one strand for DNA as a template from which nucleotides are assembled into a strand of RNA
