  • Also increased interest in social roles/relationships, including romantic relationships

Describe changes to emotions and reward pathways that occur during adolescence

A
  • Initially, we see decreased self-regulation and increased risk-taking activities, as well as increased fear of judgement from peers (embarrassment).
  • We also see increased difficulty navigating emotionally charged situations (excitement/anger etc)
  • Later in adolescence, prefrontal cortex development increase self-regulation and inhibition
