Week 4 H&S Flashcards

Q

Safety-1 vs Safety-2. What are the goals of these systems?

A

Safety-1: ensuring as few things go wrong as possible by studying instances where things have gone wrong.

Safety-2: ensuring as many things go well as possible by studying instances of things going right.

The goal of safety 1 is to avoid failure (robust); the goal of safety 2 is to build systems that can function/flourish under a range of circumstances (add in upside)
