Tests and measures for sensation (from handout) Flashcards
Sensory nerve receptors are located?
At the distal end of afferent nerve fibers
Characteristics of exteroreceptors,(What do they sense?(4) where do sensations come from?
Receive info via skin/subQ tissu pain temp light touch pressure
Characteristics of proprioceptors, what do they sense?(4) Where do the sensations originate?
Receive info via mm/ligs/jts/fascia deep sensations kinesthesia vibration position sense
Name the 3 cutaneous receptors and their sensation types?
Free nerve endings/pain
Meissner’s corpuscles/light touch
Pacinian corpuscles/vibration
Name the 2 deep sensory receptors and their sensation types?
Pacinian corpuscles/vibration
Muscle spindles/movement sense
What is a dermatome?
An area of skin innervated by the sensory fibers of a single nerve root.
(They can be tested for damage to specific roots)
There are 3 grades of sensation, what are they?
Intact
Impaired
Absent
Grade one of sensation intact, intact is?
Normal accurate response
Grade 2 impaired is?
Delayed or inaccurate
Grade 3 absent is?
No response
The reflex arc contains?(4)
Sensory seceptor
Afferent/efferent neurons
Responding muscle
Biceps nerve and roots?
Musculocutaneous, C-5 and 6
Brachioradialis NN and roots?
Radial, C-5 and 6
Triceps NN and root?
Radial, c-7
Quads NN and roots?
Femoral, L-3 and 4
