Starts with pt in an armless chair, has them stand.
Measures sitting balance, standing balance, and standing with purterbations, eyes closed, turning 360dgs, and sitting down

assesses ability to initiate, and quality of steps, path, trunk posture, heel distance
Dynamic gait index
10 sections each rated 0-3 (3 is normal)
Gait while walking a straight line 20’
Variations such as walking fast, head turns, turning, stepping over/around obstacles

Pt stands with feet together 30s eyes open, 30 sec (measures vision, proprio,and vestibular)

Fair
Static: Patient able to maintain balance with handhold support; may require occasional minimal assistance
Dynamic: Patient accepts minimal challenge; able to maintain balance while turning head/trunk
Poor
Static: Patient requires handhold support and moderate to maximal assistance to maintain position
Dynamic: Patient unable to accept challenge or move without loss of balance
