P/S III pathways Flashcards
What type of sensation does the anterolateral spinothalamic pathway conduct?
Nondiscriminative (pain/temp) broad spectrum, poor inensity, difuse location, and referred.
What type of sensation does the dorsal column medial lemniscal pathway conduct?
Discriminative, (ie stereognisis and 2pt) Precise, intense, and specific location.
Afferent fibers of anterolateral spiniothalamic pathway are (size and speed)?
Small-diameter, slowly conducting.
Afferent fibers of dorsal column medial lemniscal pathway are (size and speed)?
Large, rapidly conducting.
Origin and types of anterolateral spinothalamic pathway?
Skin (mechano, thermo, and noci receptors).
Origin of dorsal column medial lemniscal pathway?
Skin, jts, and tendons. (specialized receptors)
Projection of anterolaterspinothalmic pathway?
dorsal roots->dorsal horns (synapse)->cross and ascend sc->medulla->pons->midb->ventroposterolateral nucleus of the thalamus.
Projection of the dorsal column medial lemniscal pathway?
dorsal roots->ascend to medulla->synapse dorsal column nuclea->cross->ascend to thalamus->project to the sensory cotex
