test 7 Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT) Flashcards

Q

How do Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT) work

A
  • The SGLT is responsible for reabsorbing filtered glucose from the tubular lumen in kidney. By inhibiting the SGLT, glucose reabsorption is decreased and urinary glucose excretion is enhanced. This decreases blood glucose.
  • Blocking this cotransporter also decreases reabsorption of sodium, causing diuresis and a decrease in systolic pressure.
