test 7 Dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors (DPP-4) Flashcards
1
Q
What do Dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors (DPP-4) do
A
- Dipeptidyl peptidases inactivate the incretin hormones. DPP-4 inhibitors inhibit the action of these peptidases, prolonging the activity of the incretin GLP-1.
- This increases the release of insulin from the pancreas in response to meals and reduces the secretion of glucagon.
- GLP-1 and GIP are rapidly inactivated by DPP. DPP-4 inhibitors increase the half-life of naturally occurring incretins

Q
Difference between incretin mimetics and DPP-4 inhibitors
A
• Unlike the incretin mimetics, DPP-4 inhibitors do not cause satiety.
