What do Local Anesthetics do
A
- Block nerve conduction of sensory impulses
* Block Na channels in CNS which prevents action potential propagation
* High doses can block motor impulses - Sensation cannot be transmitted to the brain
- Cause vasodilation
* Often given with epinephrine to vasoconstrict area and extend duration of action
* Duration determined by redistribution
