Test 2.1 Flashcards
What are the two most common treatable abnormal rythms associated with cardic arrest
Ventricular fibrillation (V-fib) Ventricular tachycardia (V-tach)
What happens if their is damage to the heart muscle
It can distrust the hearts electrical system
Name the characteristic of V-Fib
Ventricles quiver without any organized rhythm
- electrical impulses fire at random
- heart can’t pump & circulate blood
- no breathing/pulse
What are the characteristic of V-Tach
Occurs when an abnormal electrical impulse orginates in the ventricles instead of at the SA node
- impulse fire rapidly preventing chambers from filling
- heart can’t pump effectively
- no breath/pulse
What can early defibrillation do?
Can correct V-fib and V-tech
But it cannot not correct asystole
What does AED stand for
Automated external defibrillator
What happens at each mintue that CPR and AED is not provide
Patient lose 10% of living
How do you use an AED
Provide 1 shock followed by 2 mins of CPR
If CPR is progress do not stop unless
AED is turned on
AED pads are applied
AED is ready to anaylze heart rhythm
What are pediatric AED pad used for
Children up to 8years old or less than 55 lbs
What should you do if pads are at risk of touching
Apply one posterior and anterior
What is the placement of the AED pads
Upper left on the Chest and on the right side of the rib cage
