What are some S&S of heart attacks
Abnormal chest pain Last longer than 3-5 mins Pain goes away then comes back Sweating around face Pale or Ashen skin Dizziness Vomiting
S&S that are more common in women
Stomach, back, jaw pain
Shortness of breath
Nausea or vomiting
Unexplained fatigue
Treatment for heart attack
Call 911 Loosen any tight clothes Comfort patient Reduce stress Supply aspirin if needed Be prepared to give CPR/AED
What are the four emergency steps when dealing with an heart attack
Call 911
Give CPR
Use AED
Summon advanced medical care
What happens during cardiac arrest
The heart stops beating or beats too irregularly or has weak blood circulation
What are some causes for cardic arrest
Heart attack
Electrocution
Respiratory arrest
Drowning
What are some S&S for cardic arrest
Unconsciousness
Absence of breathing/ pulse
How to treat cardic arrest
Preform CPR
Once you start CPR do not stop unless
AED arrives Signs of life Advanced medical care arrives You are presented with DNR (do not resuscitate ) You are tired or scene is not safe
What are some CPR complications
Broken ribs
Separation of cartilage
Vomitting
Chaos at scene
For a two person rescuer CPR what happens
Rescuer 1 does compression
Rescuer 2 does ventilation
Switch about every 2 mintues
If CPR is already started what should the other rescuer do?
1) Confirm if 911 has been called
2) Get AED or assist with care
What’s the difference with a two person rescuer with an infant
Rescuer 1 does 15 compression a
Rescuer 2 does 2 breaths
When does heart attack occur
Occurs when the heart muscle experiences a loss of oxygenated blood- also known as myocardial infraction(MI)
